United Kingdom: Final Eurovision Version of “Never Give Up On You” Released

The United Kingdom have released their final revamped version of “Never Give Up On You” for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Today the BBC released the final Eurovision version of the United Kingdom’s song “Never Give Up On You”, sung by Lucie Jones. The song, written by Eurovision 2013 winner Emmelie De Forest, has been revamped for the contest after winning the United Kingdom’s national final selection show “Eurovision: You Decide” in January.

“Eurovision: You Decide” took place on 27th January 2017, and featured six artists who battled it out for the victory and the grand prize of representing the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine, in May. The winner was decided by votes from both the public televote and the votes from a jury consisting of eight music professionals. The show also featured a three-piece jury panel that provided their feedback of the performances. These were:

• Bruno Tonioli

• Sophie Ellis-Bextor

• CeCe Sammy

Special guests included Eurovision 2009 winner Alexander Rybak from Norway, who performed his winning song “Fairytale”, and The Vamps, who performed their latest single “All Night”. In the end it was Lucie Jones that came out on top, after performing 3rd on the night in between Danyl Johnson and Olivia Garcia. The artists that performed on the night were:

Lucie Jones has already confirmed her participation at the London Eurovision Party at the beginning of April, and the Eurovision In Concert event in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to promote her song for the United Kingdom.

United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest

The United Kingdom debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957 and holds the record for the most consecutive appearances in the contest. To date the UK has won the contest a total of five times, the first victory coming in 1967 and the latest in 1997. The UK holds the record for the most second place finishes in the contest, having been runner up a total of 15 times. Since 2000 the UK has finished within the top.10 only twice, this being in 2002 and in 2009 with Jade Ewen.
