Bulgaria has revealed their song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, "Beautiful Mess" performed by 16 year old Kristian Kostov.

"Beautiful Mess" has been been composed by Borislav Milanov, Sebastian Armann and Joacim Bo Persson. They are joined by Alex Omar and Alexander Blay. The team that have written the song was involved in the writing "If Love Was A Crime" last years entry for Stockholm.

Kristian said about the song that:

“Beautiful Mess” is authentic, interesting and transmits the sentiment and the main idea of the song. I like the song, because it’s what I am. Last November, I started working with Bobby [the composer Borislav Milanov] with the idea to submit a song for Eurovision either for this year or next. “Beautiful Mess” was the song I felt genuinely inspired by. As a performer, now I’m trying to find myself and actually this is my first song that has a deeper meaning. And I like it a lot. My vision for the future is actually to do projects that make sense, so that’s a step in the right direction for me. Besides this, my fans will see me in a different light than in my past projects, so I am really curious to find out what their reaction will be.”

Kristian Kostov is the first singer in the Eurovision Song Contest's history to be born after the January 1st, 2000. His father is Bulgarian while his mother is from Kazakhstan. In 2014 he was one of the finalists of The Voice Kids, where he reached the final, he was coached by Dima Bilan in the contest.

Bulgaria returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 having last participated in the contest in 2013. The country over the years has struggled in the contest having only qualified twice for the final in 2007 and 2016. At last years contest in Stockholm, Poli Genova took the country to their best result to date finishing 4th in the final with "If Love Was A Crime".
